Old News

"In February 2009, city officials and race sponsors announced major changes to the race regulations. The regulations included an official ban on floats, alcohol, drunkenness and nudity.[14] The changes were made to assuage the concerns of San Francisco residents along the parade route, who say the race has gotten out of hand in recent years.[15] The news sparked outrage amongst many Bay Area residents who said the changes would destroy everything that has made the race a national treasure for most of the last century.[14] On February 27, 2009, city officials and race organizers announced that they were lifting many of the restrictions.[16] In particular, floats will now be allowed as long as they are registered, and nudity is not mentioned anywhere in the new restrictions. Although the bans on alcohol and drunkenness technically remain in effect, all "zero tolerance" language has been removed.[17]"

Jacques Vaderrida vs. Jesus-Marx Kenobi

Hauntology?
"'a spectre is haunting Europe, the spectre of communism'. Derrida holds that the spirit of Karl Marx is even more relevant after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the demise of communism, that the West's separation from the ignorance of the suffering still present in the world will "haunt" it and provide the impetus for a fresh interest in communism."

Josephine's Berth

Last week I went down to Eli Reitz's sailboat with him and Will from the Mumlers to record some music.  Eli is making a covers album on the boat, inviting many different friends over to record with him.  Eli asked me to do a(nother) version of In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel and Will did a pretty version of Rio by Duran Duran.  Here are some pictures from our day.

Next month I'm going to Brooklyn to make some recordings with my dear old friend Robin Macmillan. Robin's a very talented recordist and musician and I'm excited for an opportunity to mine for pop-diamonds with him. It'll be fun/never worked a day in my life. Here are two bands in which Robin plays drums:

Piece Pile / Dang Momma

A few weeks ago, Eliza Fernand asked me to make an art show with her.  It was a really fun and rewarding process.  We made a quilt out of a bunch of my old, loved clothes and we made some other quilt-themed artwork.  It's up now at Forthrite Printing.

Also, here is the recording Eliza and I made as DANG MOMMA about a year ago!xoxoxoxoxoxo

Song for the Sabra

This song cycle is a gift to my previously-unborn, now-louder nephew, Chayim Natan Yisrael.  He was born on 4/21/2010.  Hineh is a birthing blessing and aid; the rest are pedagogical.  My mother always said play is a child's work; I propose that child's work is like a play [(i.e. this one)].
